After playing around in the sandbox for a bit, I found my school's Wikipedia, "Chippewa Valley Schools." As I read through it, I noticed that the majority of the information in the "notable facts" areas was negative. Because of this, I decided the best thing for me to add would be some positive information about Chippewa's sports accomplishments (in particular, the Varsity Girls Soccer team.) Here is a screen shot of how the page looks after my entry. Click to enlarge.

Here is the Wiki I created with PB Works. This was created as a place where I can share craft related links, photos, slide shows, etc. with family, friends and students. It also will allow us to talk about sewing issues, suggestions, etc. This way, all the information will be archived so that everyone can reference it and share with one another (as opposed to how we normally discuss these things via email.)
Hi Karen,
ReplyDeleteI appreciate your comment about finding negative comments in your school's Wikipedia entry and adding some positive thoughts to counteract them. I would be wondering who wrote the negative stuff!
I am always trying to remind students that Wikipedia is changeable and not necessarily objective. It wasn't until I told some of them about our assignment to edit an entry that I think the idea actually clicked.
I like your Wiki, too. I consider myself completely uncreative, but I did learn to sew when I was 12 and I still can follow any pattern you put in front of me. (In college, I made a lined blazer with 100 steps in the pattern directions just to prove to myself that I could. What a dork!) I appreciate the work that went into the bags you have pictured. Very nice!

Karen,
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to add some positive comments to your school's wikipedia entry! It was funny to read some of the things on my school's site. You could tell either students or teachers had been editing it! :)
And I loved your crafting corner! What a great idea!
